Day rates vs. Hourly rates
Crafted Recordings prefers to charge a day rate. Charging by the hour both costs more and adds significant stress levels to the recording session. It’s hard to get much done in only an hour or two. A day rate ensures that we will get quite a bit accomplished, without having to keep our eyes on the clock all day long. The day rate also ensures maximum flexibility; if we wrap in 7 hours we won’t have to stand around; on the other hand if we just need another hour to get to a great stopping point for the day we can do that too. It all depends on the flow of a session.
We also have half-day rates available, ideal for those who prefer to work in the evening after the day job. A half-day session is perfect for recording a live show, cutting basic tracks for a short demo, or doing overdubs on an ongoing project. Though the half-day is not quite as flexible as a day, there remains some amount of flexibility in the session flow.
In rare cases we will bill by the hour, but we must have a good reason to do so.
Setup Fee
In addition to the day, half-day, or hourly rate, there is a $50 setup fee, provided the recording location is within 50 miles of Portland, Maine. If the location is more than 50 miles from Portland, add approximately $1 per mile over 50. If the location is more than 200 miles from Portland, we will work out a custom setup fee. The setup fee covers the cost to travel to your location, set the recording workstation up, and be ready to begin the session.
The day rate is $250 for a standard 8-hour day, plus the setup fee.
The half-day rate is $150 for a standard 4-hour half day plus the setup fee.
The hourly rate is $40 per hour (2 hour minimum).
